Saturday the Lions announced that they had signed veteran quarterback Josh Johnson to a one-year deal after an injury to backup Tom Savage during the preseason opener against New England on Thursday night.

This will be Johnson’s 13th NFL team after spending some time with Washington last season where he too filled in for a injury riddled DC team while managing to start the final three games of the 2018 campaign.

Throughout his career, Johnson has appeared in 33 games throwing for 1,632 yards, eight touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He was also offered a contract by the Ravens this offseason but declined to search for a better fit for himself. Whether Detroit is that fit or not is still yet to be seen.

The Lions also worked out veteran Landry Jones but opted for Johnson instead.

As for Savage, it’s believed he did suffer a concussion after being sacked for the third time in Thursday’s preseason game. His status going forward is still not known but he does have a history of head injuries throughout his career.

🌺 Trey Flowers activated from the PUP list

Flowers, was originally put on the PUP after undergoing shoulder surgery this offseason. He signed a five-year, $90 million contract with the team back in March.
