Typically the biggest dangers during a car race are undertaken by the drivers, who in the case of Takuma Sato and the IRL happen when they’re rocketing around a racetrack at 220 mph.
However pit crews have seen a bit of an increase in danger over the course of the last month within the open wheel circuit.
A few weeks ago, Jordan King hit a crew member of his after coming into pit a little too hot during the Indianapolis 500. That crew member, was hospitalized but will be okay.
This week, it was Sato at the DXC Technology 600 taking out a crew member in what initially looked to be a far worse incident considering the speed. Luckily the crew member popped right up after being dragged down and looks to be just fine aside from what we’re assuming are some scrapes and a few bruises in the morning.
Not that this is some brewing problem for the IndyCar Series. You can most certainly chalk these particular incidents up to coincidence and simply bad driving in the pits.
