The situation with Rip Hamilton, John Keuster and the Detroit Pistons just seems to get a little more twisted each day.
Chris Iott of Mlive.com has posted what apparently happened (or didnโ€™t happen) Saturday night (times are approx.).
6:15 p.m.: John Kuester was asked about the Hamilton situation during his pre-game session with the media. This is exactly how the exchange went:
Reporter: โ€œHave you spoken with Rip since last nightโ€™s game?โ€
Kuester: โ€œYou know what? Iโ€™ll tell you, weโ€™ve made overtures. One of the things thatโ€™s important is, he is somebody thatโ€™s on our team now. And we know that. Weโ€™ve reached out to him.โ€
Reporter: โ€œIs there a better relationship now?โ€
The first word out of Kuesterโ€™s mouth was โ€œno,โ€ but he quickly switched the scope of his answer to focus on how the team has been searching for a winning combination and how well the current rotation has been working.
7:45 p.m.: I saw a Tweet from a media member that said Kuester had said prior to the game that he had met with Hamilton. Have learned since then that this was erroneous and was simply a misinterpretation of Kuesterโ€™s โ€œweโ€™ve reached outโ€ comment, but I believed it to be true at the time. (This is important later.)
10:20 p.m.: Not knowing that the Tweet was erroneous, after the game I asked Hamilton directly, โ€œDid you meet with Kuester?โ€ He said no. โ€œReally?โ€ I asked. He repeated that he had not.
Of course, had I known at the time that the Tweet was erroneous, I would have followed up my original question with another direct and valid question to Hamilton, like, โ€œDid Kuester reach out to you?โ€)
Now according to Iott, the only thing that is known about all of this is that Keuster said he โ€œmade overturesโ€ and โ€œreached outโ€ to Hamilton. However, Hamilton is saying he never met with Keuster.
No further comment was made after the team practiced on Sunday.
