According to multiple reports, the Philadelphia Phillies are going to hire former Marlins and Yankees skipper Joe Girardi as their new manager.

A formal announcement is expected to come later on Thursday after the club earlier this offseason fired Gabe Kapler who finished a two year stint with the Phillies. Kapler’s dismissal came after the team finished the year with an 81-81 record and lofty expectations after spending a shit ton of money on Bryce Harper last offseason.

Girardi — who has spent two years away from managing — also interviewed with the Chicago Cubs (who ended up going with David Ross as their new skipper) and the New York Mets who are still going over candidates. Meanwhile Girardi won the Phillies job after the team also held interviews with Buck Showalter and Dusty Baker.
