Friday, the Lions made some headway when they signed free agent DT Mike Daniels to a one-year deal after the Packers surprisingly released the veteran after seven seasons with the team.

However, in turn, the Lions also released a longtime member of their own roster in running back Theo Riddick which will save the team roughly $3.55 million in cap space. That will ultimately help offset the $9.1 million dollar contract that Daniels signed yesterday which is expected to have roughly $7.8 million dollars in guaranteed money.

Riddick’s release comes after a lackluster season in which the former Notre Dame back saw his production slide catching 61 passes in 14 games while averaging just 6.3 yards per catch which was the lowest of his career.

Detroit will now move forward with Kerryon Johnson, C.J. Anderson, Zach Zenner, and Ty Johnson
