As expected Western Michigan University hockey coach Jeff Blashill resigned from his position to take a job as an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings writes Graham Couch of the Kalamazoo Gazette.

According to the report, Blashill’s resignation was made official at 9AM ET on Friday while the team was informed earlier in the morning.

The University announced that a national search will be held for Blashill’s replacement.

The Red Wings are expected to announce the hiring of Blashill as well as another assistant head coach Friday.
