Jonathan Ericsson earned $1.25 million in 2010-11, his second full NHL season

The Red Wings have re-signed defenseman Jonathan Ericsson to a three-year contract in which he will average $3.25 million dollars a season.

According to Ansar Khan of Mlive.com, this is significantly higher then the Wings’ recent offer to Ericsson that was slightly higher than $2 million. This can be attributed to several free agent defenseman coming off the market thus increasing Ericsson’s value.

Ken Holland, who hasn’t yet commented on the Ericsson signing indicated earlier in the day that the team was making progress with potential free agent Patrick Eaves. The Wings are also looking to re-sign Drew Miller however the two sides don’t appear to be close on a new deal.

“Just had a philosophical conversation (with his agent),” Holland said earlier today. “I made an offer. Can’t say we’re making a lot of progress.”

Holland gave an update on the teams status with Jaromir Jagr saying that he would stay in contact with his agent and that nothing has changed. The Wings apparently have a one-year deal worth an undisclosed amount sitting on the table for Jagr. The Wings haven’t set a deadline for Jagr but he does run the risk of losing a spot on the Wings’ roster if they sign someone else.

Word out of the Czech Republic is that Jagr has his hopes set on signing with the Penguins.
