The Wings announced Monday that they have activated veteran goaltender Chris Osgood and have sent backup goaltender Joey MacDonald back to Grand Rapids.

Osgood, who’s missed 27 games because of sports hernia surgery that was performed on January 11th will more than likely backup Jimmy Howard on Wednesday against Washington but start on Thursday in Columbus.

Osgood was last in goal for Detroit on January 4th when the Wings beat Edmonton 5-3. In limited action this season, Osgood is 5-3-2, with a 2.77 goals-against average and .903 save percentage.

During his time with the Wings this season, Joey MacDonald went 3-4-1, with a 2.47 GAA and .912 save percentage.
