It may be old news at this point but CBC’s Don Cherry wasn’t too happy after Islanders head coach Jack Capuano took a time out with 30 seconds remaining in the game and with a 5-1 lead.

In fact he was so disgusted with Capuano, he may of forgotten his name (or it may not be worth his time to remember his name, take your pick).

Here is what Cherry had to say (via Freep.com)

”Never do what the Islanders guy did.”

The Islanders guy is coach Jack Capuano. And what he did was call a timeout with 30 seconds left during New York’s 5-1 victory over the Red Wings on Dec. 10.

”You’re up 5-1, you should never take a timeout with 30 seconds to go,” Cherry says. “Because you tick everybody off, it’s embarrassing; I don’t know what you’re doing.

And all you gamblers out there, Cherry has something else to tell you:

“Let me tell you something,” he says. “If you want to make some money, bet Detroit the next time they play the Islanders. Never mind the goal spread, I guarantee you Detroit’s going to win that game.

”How anybody could be so stupid and call a timeout with 30 seconds to go, you young coaches, never do that.”

Capuano said that he took the timeout to protect his players from injury.

”That sounds like an excuse to me,” Cherry says.

Unfortunately the Wings and Islanders don’t meet again this season.
