Tyrone Wheatley Jr. stunned Michigan Thursday when the redshirt junior abruptly announced his departure from the team for reasons that are still unknown to the public.

Jr. is the son of Michigan great Tyrone Wheatley Sr. who played for the team during the 90’s and also served as running backs coach before making his way to the NFL to coach running backs for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Sr. also weighed in on his son’s departure to Angelique S. Chengelis of The Detroit News saying “He made the decision, and I support him. Nothing more, nothing less,” adding “I told him, ‘You’re 21, you’re a grown man. You know what’s best for you, and I support you.’”

Wheatley Jr., a former four-star tight end recruit from the 2015 class for the Wolverines accumulated six catches for 61 yards and a touchdown over a total of 24 games.
