Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was stretchered off the field tonight after suffering head and neck injuries during Thursday Night Football against the Bengals.
Replays showed Tua once again slamming the back of his head on the turf with his fingers going into a “fencing response” usually an immediate sign of neurological trauma.
Tua left the stadium in an ambulance and was taken to a local hospital where the good news is he’s conscious and able to move all extremities.
Still, though, there are some very real questions about whether Tua should’ve even been on the field tonight. It was just this past Sunday when the former first-round draft pick hit his head on the turf in a similar fashion causing him to stumble when he tried to get back to his feet. Tua would leave the game as a result of that play only to return soon after with the club somehow determining that the QB only suffered a back injury.
Unsurprisingly, the NFLPA doesn’t seem to be buying it (nor should they), and us investigating the Dolphins’ concussion protocols.
The foresight here is incredible, terrifying, and infuriating considering the possible negligence by the Dolphins.
Tua will likely be released from the hospital tonight and travel back to Miami with the team.
