The 2011 Mr. Basketball award winner in Michigan, Dwaun Anderson will not enroll at Michigan State or play for the Spartans this upcoming season the school announced Friday.
Anderson who signed on to play with the Spartans this upcoming year is going to take some personal time off as he copes with the loss of his mother who died this past spring.
“I want to get all my personal issues in order before moving on to the next stage of my life,” Anderson said in a press release.
“I loved being on campus this summer, getting to know and spend time with my teammates and a lot of other great people, but it also made me realize that I need to get some other things together before dealing with the pressures that come with being a college basketball player.”
Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo issued the following statement regarding Anderson’s decision…
“We will be supportive of him throughout this process, understanding there are things in life more important than basketball.”
Anderson, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard from Sutton Bay is the third consecutive Mr. Basketball to sign with Michigan State, joining 2010 recipient Keith Appling and 2009 winner Derrick Nix.
