The Tigers announced today that left-handed reliever Brad Thomas has been outrighted to Triple-A Toledo after clearing waivers.

Thomas, who was activated off the 15 day disabled list on now has 72 hours to decide whether or not he will accept the assignment to Toledo or reject it becoming a free agent.

Thomas has the option to reject it based on his accumulated service time in the Majors.

According to various sources including James Schmehl of Mlive.com, the Tigers have been actively trying to trade the left-hander the past couple weeks but failed in finding a serious suitor.

Currently the Tigers have an abundance of left-handed arms out of the pen including Adam Wilk, David Purcey and the recently demoted Phil Coke.

Thomas (0-1) had a 9.00 ERA in 12 games for the Tigers before landing on the DL in mid May with elbow inflammation.  He was 0-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 10 1/3 innings during his rehab assignment with the Toledo Mud Hens.
