Rick Renteria has seemingly been spent in the city of Chicago.
Monday it was the White Sox’s turn to sack the manager after a disappointing run in the postseason and after four seasons with the club.
Renteria had previously been fired by the Cubs after 2014 when the team opted to hire Joe Maddon who eventually ended the team’s 100-plus year World Series drought.
The 58-year-old Renteria compiled a 236-309 record during his stint on the South Side of Chicago but managed a 35-25 record this season as a very promising White Sox club looked poised for bigger things down the road. However, after an early exit to the Oakland Athletics in the Wild Card round, the team apparently figured that it wasn’t going to be Renteria to get that over the hump.
The White Sox should be a hot target for any prospective manager out there considering the young and established talent from Tim Anderson and Jose Abreu to Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, Lucas Giolito and Dallas Keuchel. Early speculation according to ESPN’s Buster Olney listed A.J. Hinch and Alex Cora as names that could end up on the South Side. Obviously though, Hinch and Cora both come with some baggage having been directly connected with the Astros cheating scandal from a few years back which ultimately led to both of them being out of baseball right now.
