Detroit

Evgeny Svechnikov could have played his last game as a member of the Red Wings.

Monday, the former 2015 first-round pick for Detroit was one of 10 players placed on waivers by GM Steve Yzerman as the rest of the League prepares itself for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

On the surface, it was a somewhat surprising room by the team given the elevated hopes they’ve had for him. However, Svechnikov has been the team poster boy when it comes to inconsistent play and injuries which has resulted in the former first-round pick appearing in just 20 NHL games.

If Svechnikov clears waivers, he can either be assigned to the team’s taxi squad (four-to-six players) or sent to Grand Rapids with the Griffins who’ll start the AHL season in February.

The deadline for today’s waiver moves is set for noon on Tuesday.
