Detroit

Evgeny Svechnikov could have played his last game as a member of the Red Wings.

Monday, the former 2015 first-round pick for Detroit was one of 10 players placed on waivers by GM Steve Yzerman as the rest of the League prepares itself for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

On the surface, it was a somewhat surprising room by the team given the elevated hopes theyโ€™ve had for him. However, Svechnikov has been the team poster boy when it comes to inconsistent play and injuries which has resulted in the former first-round pick appearing in just 20 NHL games.

If Svechnikov clears waivers, he can either be assigned to the teamโ€™s taxi squad (four-to-six players) or sent to Grand Rapids with the Griffins whoโ€™ll start the AHL season in February.

The deadline for todayโ€™s waiver moves is set for noon on Tuesday.
