After a shit start to the season which wasn’t totally unexpected, the Red Wings are above .500 for the first time this season after a 3-2 win tonight over the Boston Bruins.

Andreas Athanasiou had two goals, including the game winner in the OT period to help give the Wings their 8th win in their last 10 games. It was also the teams 10th win since October 20th when they ironically enough won their first game of the season after dropping their first seven games in October to start the year.

Aside too from Athanasiou who continues to tear up the stat sheet this season, Jimmy Howard certainly bailed out Detroit tonight turning away 36 shots for the win. Obviously Jimmy standing on his head was vital but this was even more so after two periods when Detroit registered just 13 total shots on goal.

With the win tonight, the Red Wings are now 4-1 in OT this season and are three points behind the Bruins for a playoff spot in the East. Certainly the season is still young and making the postseason for this still young Detroit squad should be seen as a relative long shot but the resiliency of this team and the ability to bounce back is something to take note of as they continue to develop.
