The Pistons and veteran point guard Derrick Rose appear to be moving towards a deal when NBA free agency opens on Monday.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Rose will meet with Detroit Sunday in hopes of working out a two-year deal while The Athletic’s Frank Isola said that the Pistons are ’emerging as the favorite’ to sign the former NBA MVP.

After being plagued by injury throughout the majority of his career, Rose enjoyed a bounce back season with the Timberwolves last year averaging 18.0 points on 48.2 percent shooting while accumulating a personal best of 37.0 percent from three-point range. Even better, his true shooting percentage this past year of 55.7 came in better than his MVP season in 2010-11 where he posted a 55 percent average.

The 30-year-old Rose spent the previous two seasons with the T-Wolves after getting a chance to prove himself with his old Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau running the show. He played for a League minimum after averaging just 43.7 games over the the course of the last seven seasons. Despite though his resurgence in his final year in Minnesota, Rose still was hampered by elbow and ankle injuries playing in just 51 games.

Rose though should still come at a bargain price for the Pistons who don’t have a ton of cap space heading into free agency.
