Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has been taken off the team’s reserved/COVID-19 list just one day after he became the most high profile name to get added to his team’s respective list.

According to the team, Stafford was removed after three negative tests confirmed a false positive clearing the way for Stafford to resume football activities with the team.

“To be clear, Matthew does NOT have COVID-19 and never has had COVID-19 and the test in question was a false positive,” the Lions said in a written statement. “Also, all of Matthew’s family have been tested and everyone is negative.”

Obviously the good news to come out of all of this is Stafford is healthy which I’m sure comes as a relief to the Stafford household who just welcomed a new baby. Stafford’s Wife — Kelly B. Stafford — however, took aim at the NFL and how they’ve handled unconfirmed and/or questionable positive tests.

She’s not wrong. In fact, if the way the NFL and the Lions handled this situation is any indication on how the season is going to go in the middle of a pandemic, then we can expect to see fuck ups and a complete shit show of a 2020 season on an MLB level, maybe worse. I mean, factor in the NFL essentially following the MLB blueprint for rather than the NHL/NBA/MLS one that has proven to be pretty effective thus far as each of those Leagues has seen little to no coronavirus positive tests so far.

The “bubble” has been working. Traveling has been a disaster. Shocker I know.

Otherwise, the Lions got additional good news as Justin Coleman also made his way off the COVID-19 list as well.
