After a shitty 2018, the Lions have begun making adjustments to their roster with the new year now in tow.
According to MLive.com, the Lions on Tuesday signed a familiar face to football fans in the state by inking former Spartans QB Connor Cook to a futures deal.
Via Mlive.com:
He’s been a journeyman in the professional ranks, heading first to the Raiders in the fourth round of the 2016 draft and then spending this year on the practice squads of the Bengals and Panthers. He did start a playoff game for the Raiders, when they lost to the Texans in 2016. Cook threw three interceptions that game, and he hasn’t seen the field since.
However Cook’s signing likely means the end of the Jake Rudock tenure with the Lions which will ironically add a little fuel to the Michigan/Michigan State rivalry.
Rudock however never seemed to garner the attention of Matt Patricia and the new coaching staff after the Michigan alum was essentially demoted to the practice squad in favor of Matt Cassel this past season. Meanwhile the Lions obviously liked what they saw in Cook stretching back to joint practices with the Raiders last offseason.
The 25-year-old Cook’s claim to fame in the State came after he was able to guide the Spartans to a 34-5 record as a three-year starter which included a trip to the College Football Playoff his senior season. Cook is also currently the Michigan State leader in touchdown passes and passing yards.
