It’s assumed that the Tigers will get some insurance at the catching position when September call-ups come around and with that said, catcher Omir Santos is likely to make that jump.
John Lowe of the Free Press reports that the Tigers want Santos to be available to them during the post season given the uncertainty of Victor Martinez at the position.
All-Star Alex Avila recently made 18 straight starts for the team due to Victor Martinez be limited with a sprained knee. Santos would be available to the Tigers in the post season if he were to take the roster spot of a player currently on the disabled list like pitcher Joel Zumaya.
