The Church and Sports… and the horrible double standard

(Looking at you Tim Tebow)

Ever see an athlete give “big ups” to God after a great play?

Of course, happens all the time.

Back when he was playing, Barry Bonds would hit a 500 ft home run, step on home plate and point both fingers upstairs (much like he did when he basically got off Scott free for that whole perjury business about the ‘roids) when instead he should have probably pointed at his ass where he got his injections.

This brings me to Tim (Christ 2.0) Tebow. Don’t get me wrong I have no problem with prayer or players getting in the middle of the field after the game to say a prayer (or something along the lines of that).

My problem is when Tim Tebow threw the pick six to Chris Houston, why when he gets back to the Broncos sideline doesn’t he take a knee and pray or better yet point his fingers up to the sky (like many others do)? You see it in baseball all the time… a big time home run or hit. Ever see a guy strikeout, get sacked, miss a lay-up and still point up to the sky? NO you don’t so stop with the double standard. Most professional athletes like to “Thank God” for them getting them to where they are today.

I may be wrong but last I checked God didn’t make you run a faster 40-yard dash, he didn’t make that jumper for you and he sure as hell didn’t help you throw the game winning touchdown. So can we please stop with this nonsense. Pray and point all you want, all I ask for is that you also give credit to “the big man” when you get face-planted in the dirt by a 300lb lineman or when your knees buckle at a Justin Verlander curveball.

Thank You.
