Bad news for Bears fans and the organization when it comes to trying to rid themselves of another shoot from the hip QB decision.

In a media appearance with CBS Sports, Jason La Canfora downplayed any notion of the Bears being able to trade away quarterback Nick Foles, specifically to the New York Jets saying Chicago was essentially trying to “create a market” for the veteran signal-caller.

Not that there isn’t a need for a veteran like Foles but like most things in the NFL — especially in this case it’s all about bad contracts and Foles certainly has one.

After making a panic move in acquiring Foles from the Jaguars given the uncertainties surrounding Mitch Trubisky the Bears handcuffed themselves into a $6.6 million dollar cap hit through this season with a $14.3 million dollar dead cap hit.

Cutting Foles next season becomes much more manageable for the Bears but Chicago will still be dealing with a dead cap (roughly half of 2021) until he becomes a UFA in 2023.

So, in essence, expect Foles to be around at least one more season which may not be a completely bad thing since it gives the team some options at QB instead of throwing Justin Fields out there with no serviceable backup to fall back on in his rookie campaign.
