After weeks of speculation Texas Tech and men’s basketball coach Billy Gillispie have parted ways. Here’s a statement from the University which was released Thursday…

“Billy has decided to focus on his health and we wish him a full recovery,” athletic director Kirby Hocutt said in a released statement. “We are proud of the young men that he has brought to this campus. Billy’s decision allows him to concentrate on his well-being and allows us to turn our attention to preparations for the upcoming season.”

Red Raider fans as well as the players are probably jumping for joy with the departure of Gillispie who was awful during his stint with Texas Tech accumulating an 8-23 overall record. There were also accusations that Gillispie mistreated his players by tremendously over working them during practice. After the reports surfaced Gillispie took a leave of absence citing health concerns.
