Speculation continues to surround Texas A&M and their potential departure from the Big 12 for the SEC.
Things got a little bit interesting over the weekend as well as Southeast Conference presidents decided that “future conditions may make it advantageous to expand the number of institutions in the league.”
The best part of this however is Texas A&M regents will meet Monday to decide the future of the athletic programs.
The SEC later released a statement to cover itself if the Big 12 decide to take legal action towards the SEC if Texas A&M should decide to leave…
“The SEC Presidents and Chancellors met today and reaffirmed our satisfaction with the present 12 institutional alignment,” said Florida president Bernie Machen, chairman of the SEC presidents and chancellors committee. “We recognize, however, that future conditions may make it advantageous to expand the number of institutions in the league. We discussed criteria and process associated with expansion. No action was taken with respect to any institution including Texas A&M.”
From here on out Texas A&M truly controls its own destiny in terms of its conference allegiance. If A&M decides to stay in the Big 12 they will stay but if they decide to leave for the SEC, the released statement by the conference all but assures a place for them.
