As reported Thursday by Andrew Gribble of the Knoxville News Sentinel, Tennessee wide receiver DeAnthony Arnett is leaving the program after his freshman season.

“Arnett’s father has battled health issues and his condition has not improved since Arnett enrolled at UT, a source told the News Sentinel,” Gribble writes.

“Arnett told the website he has applied for a personal hardship waiver that would allow him to play next season.

“SpartanTailgate reported that Arnett informed Tennessee coach Derek Dooley he would transfer and added that he will be ‘exploring his options.’ Those options include Michigan State, Michigan and Notre Dame.”

However what is truly appalling about this story is the way Tennessee is handling themselves.

According to Joe Schad of ESPN.com, “Arnett said he is seeking a release to all schools in Michigan. He said Tennessee will release him to a Mid-American Conference school in Michigan, unless he wants to pay his own way to a Big Ten school.”

Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Western Michigan are the schools in the MAC conference that reside in the State of Michigan.

And since Tennessee as well as the NCAA (if they choose not to act) are totally heartless, Arnett may have to finish the spring semester in Tennessee to circumvent NCAA rules.

“Because Arnett signed a National Letter of Intent in February, he is subject to eligibility ramifications if he does not complete a full year at UT,” Andrew Gribble of GoVolsxtra.com noted.
