Red Wings All Star defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom has been named as a team captain for this year’s NHL All Star game in Carolina on January 30th.
Lidstrom along with Eric Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes will both select their own teams to face off against each other in the first NHL All-Star Player Fantasy Draft which will be held on January 28th. In addition to this both Lidstrom and Staal will pick their teams for the Honda NHL SuperSkills competition which will be held on January 29th.
“With all the great players participating, it’s a great honor to be selected as a captain for this year’s All-Star game,” Lidstrom said. “I’m really looking forward to all of the weekend’s events and I’m very excited to be a part of the draft that decides the rosters of the two teams.”
Four alternate captains will also be chosen (2 for each team) which will be chosen at a later date. According to TSN the captain and alternate captains for Team Lidstrom and Team Staal will consist of two forwards and one defenceman.
