SummerSlam

Ronda Rousey and Roman Reigns made headlines tonight as SummerSlam 2018 is now in the books from the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York. After a slow start to the night, things seemingly picked up with a predictable yet needed outcome to the night’s main event.

Top Three Matches of the Night

3. SmackDown Women’s Championship – Triple Threat
Carmella (c) vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair

Carmella has a good character but is terrible in the ring. Nonetheless her being strapped with the SmackDown Women’s Title wasn’t the worst thing in the World that the WWE could have done but it’s certainly makes for the best that it was removed from her tonight.

Becky and Charlotte are two of the best competitors that the WWE has to offer and this match appearing in the top three is more about what is in the making. Charlotte taking on Becky should make for one of the better feuds in recent time.

2. Intercontinental Championship
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Seth Rollins

The Ambrose angle to this match definitely added a little more and I’m sure many out there were expecting some sort of heel turn from the Lunatic Fringe which would guarantee Ziggler to retain or setup some sort of program between himself and Rollins. I guess that could still happen but this was still a pretty good match with some impressive spots from both competitors.

1. WWE Championship
AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe

A.J. Styles and Samoa Joe stealing the show shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, both are two of the best in the World at what they do. Styles’ all-around in-ring ability is second to none and Joe’s being a big man doing what he does is remarkable in and of itself. In the end it was somewhat disappointing to see Joe leave without the belt but like the Charlotte and Becky Lynch outcome it’s good to see this feud continue.

Top Three WORST Matches of the Night

3. Kickoff Show
Rusev & Lana vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega

Not that this was a bad match. Almas and Vega should and will make their way up through the SmackDown ranks but Jesus Christ, Rusev was taking on Styles for the WWE Title last month and has been regulated to the Kickoff Show performing to a lifeless empty arena? Pretty weak.

2. Cruiserweight Championship – Kickoff Show
Cedric Alexander (c) vs. Drew Gulak

I’ve always been a fan of a Cruiserweight Division. I’ve even been in favor of what the WWE is trying to do with this latest incarnation of the Division. However this match lacked anything of the sort and was really an embarrassment. It was more or less just a filler to get to the next match of the night.

1. SmackDown Tag Team Championship
The Bludgeon Brothers (c) vs. The New Day

A completely forgettable match with a completely forgettable copout outcome.
