Today the NFL dropped the financial hammer on Ndamukong Suh fining the Lions defensive tackle $100,000 dollars for his low block on Vikings center John Sullivan Sunday afternoon. The fine itself was the largest for an on the field football related incident in league history.

Harsher penalties handed out by the NFL (non football related) include the $500,000 dollars given to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick for Spygate while former Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis was docked $250,000 dollars for obstruction of justice in a murder case.

Suh’s big fine comes though as a result of his repeat offender status, something the NFL has taken into consideration with fines before. Prior to Suh the next largest single fine (for a football related incident) was $75,000 dollars given to James Harrison (then of the Pittsburgh Steelers) for repeated helmet-to-helmet hits.

So in less than 3 three fulls seasons in the NFL Suh has been docked a total of $342,500 dollars for incidents that happened on the football field (including this most recent fine). He was fined $75,000 for five separate incidents and also lost out on $165,000 for a two game suspension.
