According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen who cites an unnamed source, Lions RB Jerome Harrison’s brain surgery to remove a tumor went well. furthermore, doctors were reportedly able to remove the entire tumor.
The condition that Harrison is suffering from is known as arteriovenous malformation which is an abnormal connection between veins and arteries that often goes undetected. This very well could have been the contributing factor to the development of the tumor.
Thankfully enough the tumor was tumor was detected during a physical after Harrison was traded from the Lions to the Eagles for RB Ronnie Brown. During the Physical, Harrison was complaining of headaches to Eagles doctors who then ordered an MRI where the tumor was discovered. Harrison was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list by the Lions after the trade was voided.
The test revealed a tumor known as ependymoma in the fourth ventricle of Harrison’s brain.
Harrison is done for the rest of the year however it’s been mentioned that Harrison’s long-term prognosis is good and that he could return to the football field down the road.
According to the Lions, they will not make any further statements on Harrison as the next statement will come from Harrison himself.
