The Oakland Roots are coming off their most successful season as a pro club after coming a win short of securing the NISA Fall title before making their way to the USL Championship later this year.

With that last part in mind, 2021 should be shaping up to be a pretty big year for the Roots sitting in the second-tier of the U.S. soccer pyramid. However, we’d be amiss to gloss over some activity on Twitter that’s getting us scratching our heads wondering what could be going on with the club behind closed doors.

This curiosity stems from some cryptic tweets from Roots founder Benno Nagel over the course of the past few days which what we can only assume is some falling out behind the scenes. Namely, this pinned tweet from Nagel showing himself blocked by Roots co-founder Edreece Arghandiwal.

Then there’s this, which could literally mean anything, but given the lack of context and some of the apparent subtweets one can only make assumptions on what could possibly be going on.

But there’s more…

So what’s happening? Maybe some disagreements regarding making a jump to the bloodsucking USL Championship and all of the pitfalls that come with upper-tier U.S. soccer?

Aside from the posted tweets and subtweets, the only thing we have are assumptions and nothing of fact — something we most certainly aren’t claiming to possess.

Nonetheless, hopefully a little clarity is available to everyone soon.
