Some of the more prominent speculation that surrounds the Wings is whether or not they will pursue one of Nashville’s star defensemen in Shea Weber or Ryan Suter next summer.
It seems that at this point the Predators are doing or will do everything they possibly can to keep both players in Music City for a very long time. However the Edmonton Journal‘s Jim Matheson writes, “I still think Suter could sign in Detroit as an unrestricted free agent this July or the Wings will try to trade for Weber if the Preds can’t re-sign him.”
There are two very important questions that arise though with this potential situation at hand.
The first question is if the Predators lose even one of those guys, will the other be even more compelled to leave town?
The second question is what will Nicklas Lidstrom do next season? The seemingly ageless defensemen still commands a large salary from Detroit but if he decides to retire you can sure bet the Wings will up their efforts to get either Weber or Suter in the offseason.
