It was the Club over the “Brand” tonight as the Detroit City FC took a big step forward in their quest for the NPSL Members Cup with a 2-1 road win over the New York Cosmos Saturday night.

Cyrus Saydee got City on the board early with a goal in the 8′ with Yazeed Matthews getting the eventual game winner in the 30′.

Matt Lewis got the lone Cosmos goal in the 82′ minute as Detroit managed to weather an onslaught of shots from New York which outshot Le Rouge 20-3.

Nonetheless DCFC’s magic number is essentially down to one with tonight’s win that secured them three points and sole possession of first place in the Members Cup table with two games left to go. The Cosmos, who now fall to second only have one remaining game.

Detroit can clinch the Members Cup Wednesday when they take on the Michigan Stars FC Wednesday from Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac. DCFC plays their final game of the season next Saturday against the Milwaukee Torrent from Keyworth.
