In a shocking announcement that doesn’t seem to be any kind of lame April Fool’s joke, legendary North Carolina head coach Roy Williams has decided to retire.

Williams’ 48-year coaching career included 15 seasons at Kansas where he guided the Jayhawks to four Final Four appearances before heading to his alma mater at UNC where he went 485-163 with three National Titles in 2005, 2009, and 2017.

You’d think Williams would have wanted one more good run through the Tournament after a lackluster regular season this past year. Still, the Tar Heels made it into the Tournament after getting at the end before getting bounced in the first round by Wisconsin that marked the first time a Roy Williams coach team was eliminated that early in 30 Tournament appearances.
