Former NHL forward Jeremy Roenick was never one to shy away from saying what was on his mind.
Roenick, who is now an analyst for Versus turned his attention to Patrick Marleau of the San Jose Sharks calling his performance after San Joseโs Game 5 loss to the Detroit Red Wings gutless.
โAll in all 19 players of San Jose Sharks came and grinded it out and played very good game,โ Roenick added.
Roenick then took to his Twitter account to defend his criticisms of Marleau.
โEveryone can be mad at me for my comments. Thatโs fine!!โ Roenick wrote. โMy opinions are mine and Iโve always voiced them! Classless? Iโve had worse said of me!!
โMarleau has his fans and thatโs great! I am not one of them and wonโt pretend to be! I love the Sharks with a passion and think the fans deserve a better effort than Marleau has given in this series!!!โ
Marleau, who is having a dreadful series against the Wings despite being up 3-2 is seen as one of the more classy players in the league. Sharks broadcaster Randy Hahn was also quick to come to Marleauโs defense.
โJeremy Roenick only cares about furthering his broadcasting career,โ Sharksโ broadcaster Randy Hahn said on Twitter . โHis Marleau take was WAY over the line. Many bridges were burned.โ
This isnโt the first time that Roenick has made negative comments towards Marleau. Roenickโs ribbing of Marleau was very prevalent in last yearโs playoffs as well.
โWhen is Patrick Marleau gonna come out and hit somebody in a playoff game?โ Roenick said on Canadian radio as the Sharks took on the Red Wings, also in the second round.
