Detroit

Detroit City FC legend Roddy Green announced his departure from the club in a Twitter posting Sunday marking the end of a five-year stint with his hometown team.

Green’s announcement came on the eve of when Detroit City was expected to start making their own player announcements ahead of the 2022 USL Championship season which for DCFC starts on March 12 against San Antonio FC.

However, despite this being the end of the road for Green’s time with City, his impact on the Club is in a way legendary. His journey from supporter to professional player for DCFC became an epitome of what it meant to be a community-based, grassroots club. Simply put, Detroit City wouldn’t be where they’re at today without players like Roddy Green and what they represent.

At this point it’s unclear what’s next for Green as a player, however, he will serve as the head coach for Detroit Union FC who’ll make their MWPL debut this upcoming season.
