After Tennessee’s massive road victory last night that may have very well ended the Patriots dynasty, visiting teams continued that road warrior mentality today on the NFC side of things.
First, it was the Minnesota Vikings who paid a visit to the Big Easy to stun the New Orleans Saints in overtime 26-20 after Kirk Cousins was able to connect with Kyle Rudolph on a fade route in the corner of the endzone.
However, since we’re talking New Orleans it would be amiss if the final play that put a dagger into their season didn’t come without some controversy, notably the push-off by Rudolph to give himself just enough separation.
After the fact, the League addressed the controversy saying there was contact on the play but not enough to throw a flag for offensive pass interference
Now I hate to feel too bad for New Orleans in this instance considering I’m a Lions fan and no other team in the League (aside from the Browns) knows our misery, but fuck, two years in a row with pass interference controversy…
In the second game, it was the Seahawks traveling cross country to take down the Philadelphia Eagles 17-9.
The story here was the nasty hit that Jadeveon Clowney laid on Carson Wentz that ended up taking the Eagles QB out of the game.
Given the NFL refs are fucking suck, it’s true that Wentz made himself available for a hit since he didn’t slide feed first. But the hit delivered by Clowney was no question dirty and should’ve resulted in the Seattle defender getting ousted from the game.
Not that Wentz’s exit from the game would have meant much in terms of the outcome of the game. The Eagles in no way matched up with the Seahawks and instead took advantage of a shit NFC East to make it to this point.
Nonetheless, the missed call between Wentz and Clowney was another indictment on NFL refs being fucking horrible. The outcome doesn’t take away from that.
