Monday, the Detroit Pistons finally cut ties with three-time All-Star Rip Hamilton.
Hamilton’s release from the Pistons was announced late last week however wasn’t made official until today.
Both sides agreed to a $11 million dollar buyout which will save the Pistons $11 million over the next two seasons. Hamilton still had two years remaining on his current contract and was set to make around $19 million dollars.
What’s important to note is since it is a buyout, the $11 million dollars that both sides agreed upon will still count towards the cap but will be spread out within the remaining two years. The Pistons also didn’t use their Amnesty Clause on Hamilton.
Hamilton posted the following on his Twitter page…
“Thank u to all my Detroit fans,” a message reads on Hamilton’s Twitter account. “Love all of u. U will always have a special place in my heart. Yessssssirrrrr.”
