Some interesting information has come out regarding the hiring of former Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez at Arizona in the Pac 12.

According to New Orleans Quarterback Club, high school football coach J.T. Curtis, a highly respected coach in Louisiana, Rodriguez was promised a future non-conference matchup with Michigan. This in addition to Arizona’s chances at winning an National Championship was an important factor in Rodriguez choosing to go to Arizona instead of Tulane.

“My understanding, talking to coach Rich Rodriguez — and I was involved in that a little bit — it was a much closer decision than people realize between Tulane and Arizona,” Curtis said. “I know that might not sound right to you, but I think Tulane did all that they could go to give him an opportunity to come there and give him a chance to coach. His expression to me was he felt he had a better chance to win the national championship at Arizona if he recruited properly and they promised him they would put Michigan on the schedule within three years.”

As of now, Michigan’s 2012 non-conference schedule is set with non-conferences games against Alabama, Air Force, Notre Dame and UMass. Central Michigan, Akron, UConn and Notre Dame are tentatively scheduled for Michigan in 2013.

You better be careful what you wish for.
