As training camp looms, the Red Wings’ top prospects will kick off an annual tournament starting this Saturday in which they will go head-to-head with prospects from eight other NHL teams.

These teams will participate in the “Howe Division” consisting of Detroit, Buffalo, Columbus and Minnesota. the “Gretzky Division” will consist of the New York Rangers, Carolina, Dallas and St. Louis.

Some of the bigger names that will play for the Detroit include defenseman Brendan Smith (who’s expected to compete for a spot on top roster this season), Tomas Jurco (Detroit’s top pick in the 2011 draft) and Gustav Nyquist (a Hobey Baker Award finalist).

The Wings’ main goaltender will be Petr Mzarek the teams fifth-round pick in 2010.
