Here are some various Detroit Red Wings News and rumors…

  • Ken Holland expects to have the backup goaltending situation settled by next week. This seems to be an ongoing issue now since it appeared like the situation would be settled by the end of this week. Holland was to meet with veteran goaltender Chris Osgood Thursday in British Columbia where both have summer homes. The Wings’ backup goalie position seems to be down to either Chris Osgood or Ty Conklin.

Holland admitted that they were offered a goalie through trade and that he’s been in contact with the agents of some other goalies in the league. Other guys who aren’t signed are Marty Turco and Ray Emery.

  • The status of veteran forward Kris Draper seems uncertain at this point as well. Ken Holland mentioned a few weeks back that along with Osgood, Draper would not be offered a contract prior to July 1st however he would not close the door on the possibility of bringing Draper and/or Osgood back.

The Wings certainly have he money to re-sign Draper however they may not have the roster space. Draper already mentioned that he would not accept a two-way contract and he would not attend training camp without a contract.

Like Osgood, Draper should know his future with the Red Wings next week.

It’s my guess that Draper right now that Draper retires and takes a job within the Red Wings organization.

  • There have been rumors swirling around that the Wings may be in on Washington left-wing Alex Semin. According to various sources the Capitals appear to be at this cap limit (no pun intended) and although they aren’t necessarily shopping Semin they would be looking for a more balanced lineup.

As far as what the Caps would get in return, since they are at their salary cap limit they may settle for draft picks and prospects.  Stay tuned.
