According to sources, the Detroit Pistons may retire Dennis Rodman’s #10 jersey and an announcement on the matter may come as early as early as today.
Chris Iott of Mlive.com states that the news was first broke by Ken Calvert of WCSX (FM-94.7) and that the Pistons would officially retire the jersey on April 1st. Currently, Greg Monroe wears the #10 jersey.
Dennis Rodman, otherwise known as ‘the worm’ was drafted out of Southeastern Oklahoma State by the Pistons in 1986. During his seven seasons with the Pistons Iott says that Rodman led the league in rebounds twice, was named to the NBA All-Defensive first team five times, won two Defensive Player of the Year Awards and won two championships as a member of the Pistons.
This news comes on the heals of a potential deal in place for Michigan native and billionaire Tom Gores to purchase the team from current owner Karen Davidson.
Retiring Rodman’s jersey may also stir some controversy given Rodman’s outlandish behavior and the way his Pistons career ended.
Rodman last played in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks.
