In terms of injury, Pistons forward Jon Leuer has most certainly been one of the most unluckiest guys on the team. After missing 74 games last season because of various ailments with his foot, Leuer was looking forward to getting back to work this season, even mentioning before the end of last year that he’s getting close to 100 percent.

Unfortunately for Leuer his comeback has been put on hold.

According to the Detroit News, the backup power forward underwent knee surgery in New York on Wednesday after suffering an injury during offseason workouts. The News further reports that a timetable for his return is ‘uncertain’.

The Pistons announced Thursday that Leuer suffered a knee injury during offseason workouts this week and had surgery Wednesday in New York to repair a right medial meniscus issue. A timetable for his return is uncertain.

It’s a setback for Leuer, who was projected to see significant time as a backup power forward and center next season.

Before the end of the season, Leuer indicated he was getting closer to 100 percent and had gotten past all the foot injuries. The knee injury likely opens more playing time for third-year big man Henry Ellenson, who played sparingly under Stan Van Gundy but looks to have a bigger role under new coach Dwane Casey.

Just prior to the 2016-17 season, Leuer signed a four-year deal worth $41 million dollars. That ensuing year, Leuer went on to start part-time for Detroit netting 10.2 points and 5.4 rebounds.

As far as his status goes, Leuer will undergo rehabilitation immediately with his status being reevaluated just prior to the start of training camp in September.
