The Tigers made an adjustment to their starting rotation today.

According to Chris Iott of Mlive.com, the Tigers have elected to skip Brad Penny in their series finale against Cleveland next week in favor of staff ace Justin Verlander.

If the Tigers were to say with their current rotation, Justin Verlander would’ve had an extra day of rest after the team has an off-day on Monday following the Kansas City series. Verlander would’ve ended up pitching in next weekend’s series opener in Baltimore on Friday.

Here are the probably pitching match-ups for the big Indians series this week.

  • Tuesday: Doug Fister (4-12, 3.29 ERA) vs. Justin Masterson (9-7, 2.63 ERA).
  • Wednesday: Rick Porcello (11-6, 4.49 ERA) vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (6-9, 4.64 ERA).
  • Thursday: Verlander (15-5, 2.24 ERA) vs. Fausto Carmona (5-11, 5.31 ERA).

With the move it looks as though Detroit will try to plant that dagger into the chest of Cleveland just a little bit more. The Indians currently trail the Tigers by 4 games in the AL Central.
