As the Devils cleaned out their lockers after a Game 6 loss to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup final, free agent to-be Zach Parise spoke to reporters indicating that he would like to return to the Devils next season.

“I like the people here,” Parise said in the Bergen Record’s Fire and Ice blog. “I like the staff, my teammates. I like the area. There’s a lot of good things about this place.”

Parise also made it known that he has no intentions of signing with New Jersey’s arch rival New York Rangers.

After spending several seasons with the Devils it’s not surprising in the least bit that Parise says he would like to remain with the only NHL team he’s ever known. But the fact of the matter is he’s in line to get what could be the biggest contract he’ll ever receiver in his career and given the Devils’ ownership situation, it doesn’t seem likely they’ll have the resources to bring him back.

The Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings and Minnesota Wild remain the biggest players for Parise this offseason.
