No contracts for Draper or Osgood, yet…

Red Wings GM Ken Holland informed veterans Kris Draper and Chris Osgood that he would not offer them contracts prior to NHL free agency which begins on July 1st. However this doesn’t mean they won’t be offered contracts at some point.

Ansar Khan of Mlive.com reports that Ken Holland wants to first take a look at what can be had on the free agent market before making any final decisions on Draper and Osgood.

Both players seem to be ready to retire if they aren’t brought back by the Wings next season.

Jagr update

Jaromir Jagr was offered a one year contract by the Pittsburgh Penguins and is expected to give them an answer sometime Wednesday.

Wings GM Ken Holland has expressed interest in the veteran forward who has played the last few season in the KHL.

No word yet on if Jagr was offered a contract from the Wings.

Talks still ongoing with Ericsson

Ken Holland mentioned that talks are still ongoing with impending UFA Jonathan Ericsson.

“We’ve done a lot of talking (with Ericsson’s agent) the last 4-5 days,” Holland said. “We’d like to re-sign him. I don’t think money’s as big an issue. He’s 27, he wants to know where he fits going forward and how it affects his role.

“We’ll see between now and Friday if we can get a deal done.”

Holland mentions that this is pretty much the case with Patrick Eaves and Drew Miller Khan reports.
