According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, the expectation is that the Lions will fire head coach Jim Schwartz after going 29-50 in five seasons (before this weekend), while making the playoffs once and missing the postseason this year after basically having the NFC North handed to them.
But itβs not just the coaching staff that could get boot. Rapoport believes that the front office could be relieved of their duties as well.
βIβm also told itβs a strong possibility the entire front office could be cleared out there,β Rapoport said on βNFL GameDay Morning.β β(There was) some serious dysfunction with the Lions, including the front office bringing in players and coaches simply not using them. By the end of the year the two sides β they werenβt really talking to each other.β
Now despite longtime team owner William Clay Ford being notorious for his overly loyal attitude towards his coaching and front office staff, NFL Media columnist Michael Silver said Clayβs son, Bill Ford Jr. will make the decision on Schwartz, Mayhew and company.
βIβm told if they do make a change they are going to want offense, someone who can work with quarterback Matthew Stafford,β Silver said. βAnd Greg Roman β a hot name the last couple years β the 49ers offensive coordinator, would be very, very interested.β
However despite the NFL Networkβs speculation, Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted out earlier today that the Fordβs were βon the fenceβ regarding Schwartz but were leaning towards keeping him.
League sources said Lions ownership is βon the fenceβ about HC Jim Schwartzβs job status but it is βleaning towards keeping him.β

So in other words no one really knows whatβs going to happen.
