The NFL Network just did something that took the Lions seven years to do.

Today, the Network cut ties with former Lions executive Matt Millen who color commentating during Thursday night telecasts. Along with Millen the NFL Network also fired his broadcast partner and former NFL QB Joe Theisman.

According to a report from SI.com, the network’s next move may be to revamp the play-by-play position. Bob Papa has held the position for the past two seasons however it’s quite possible that the NFL Network may make  a serious consideration for University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy alumnus and current CBS broadcaster Gus Johnson. Johnson mostly has been doing NCAA Basketball work and is most known for his high energy and excitement in calling games. Johnson has also done NFL CBS broadcasts as well as Lions play-by-play when they had their pre-season games on CBS.

What will make Lions fans smile however is definitely Millen lose his spot on the NFL Network broadcasts. It is just a little retribution for his seven atrocious years as a Lions executive.
