There was an unlikely winner in game one of the Tigers/Yankees ALDS matchup from the Bronx and that winner was Mother Nature herself.
The game ended up being postponed due to rain in the middle of the second after both teams being tied 1-1.
Delmon Young hit a home run for Detroit in the top of the first to right field while Derek Jeter scored to tie things up after an Alex Rodriguez RBI in the bottom of the first.
With tonight’s delay Game one will resume tomorrow at 8:37PM which would’ve been the original start time for game 2. Tigers manager Jim Leyland said he probably wouldn’t make any adjustments to his lineup tomorrow against RHP Nova considering he had things set Friday night for Sabathia who is a lefty. In addition to this the game will be picked up right where it left on per the new MLB postseason rules. Game 2 will now be on Sunday at 3:37PM in the Bronx with game 3 being Monday in Detroit.
With the adjustment in the games Jim Leyland and Joe Girardi had to make adjustments to their pitching rotations as well.
The Tigers will still go with Doug Fister will still go Saturday night in the new game 1 with Max Scherzer starting game 2 on Sunday. Justin Verlander will now pitch game 3 on Monday in Detroit followed by Porcello for game 4 and Doug Fister for game 5.
Joe Girardi will go with C.C. Sabathia on Monday as well however it is being reported that Sabathia will lobby Girardi to pitch on Sunday in order to get him the most starts possible in the series. Verlander on the other hand said that he would come out of the bullpen in game five if he was needed. No word yet if Jim Leyland would approve of this.
Going forward though the bad news for both teams is the weather this weekend in New York City still calls for rain.
