There’s probably not a bigger more self-serving, pompous jackass in the Detroit media than Mitch Albom.

But that sentiment is nothing new. You can do a Google search search of “Mitch Albom sucks” and come across blogs dedicated to this highlighting the utter awfulness that is a Mitch Albom column. In fact, when Deadspin was still Deadspin they made it a point to occasionally highlight Albom’s pandering or the time he made up a bunch of shit and almost got fired.

But then there is the actual writing. Let’s step inside one of Albom’s columns, shall we? Pandering? Laborious? Albom can be all of these and more. Of course you know that Mitch recently made up a bunch of crap in one of his columns, Jayson Blair style, and almost got canned. There’s also the rumor about how Oakland University is refusing to send any more interns to his radio show because he once threw something at one of them, a laRussell Crowe.

Deadspin

Fast forward though to the merciful end of the Jim Harbaugh coaching saga where Albom was once again gifted the opportunity to shill away for the University of Michigan. All while doing his best to make it seem like the return of Harbaugh to Ann Arbor was the most optimal outcome for either side. This despite the Michigan head coach doing his best to market himself to NFL teams this off-season while Warde Manuel being just a year out from publicly embarrassing Harbaugh by cutting his salary just short of firing him altogether.

Then there’s this ridiculous juxtaposition between Albom’s take on Mel Tucker’s extension with Michigan State and Harbaugh and Michigan ultimately being stuck with each other.

Not that having a bias is bad. It’s human nature especially in sports. But let’s be honest with ourselves here Mitch, Harbaugh’s success this past season was his first since losing to his brother in the Super Bowl back in 2013, seven years after signing that first contract to coach the Wolverines.
